On April 19, X Burlesque held its 10th anniversary celebration at the legendary Flamingo Hotel, where the revue has spent the half of its decade-long run. 10 years speaks for itself - clearly a huge success story!
But it got me thinking just how much burlesque has changed over the centuries (since the late 1700s), especially the last few decades, as well as how it hasn't changed.
Comparing Then & Now By Arthur J. Bloberger
Classical Burlesque vs. XBurlesque
X Burlesque is
provocative relief for the
undersexed middle class to
mindless forms of unreality
entertainment such as The
Aprentice and American
Idol. Turn off the TV and
get out of the house already! Classical burlesque derives from the Italian burlesco, which itself derives from the Italian burla – a joke, ridicule or mockery.
X Burlesque derives from the film rating, "X-rated," intended only for viewing by adults of a voyeuristic nature.
X Burlesque features the modern-day striptease, where what little clothing worn is removed very quickly. The destination is what it's all about now, catering to the fact that we've become such an impatient society.
Classical burlesque, particularly in the United States, refers to performances in a variety show format.
X Burlesque has a standup comic to provide a break in the action and a few laughs. But bring back the girls!
Classical burlesque was backed by real live music, from classical to jazz! Remember real live music?
X Burlesque is backed by an excellent, mostly hard rock, soundtrack. But I miss the days when live music was everywhere in Vegas, Don't you?
That said, X Burlesque. is among the best of today's modern burlesque. If you like incredibly beautiful young naked women dancing, sliding and swinging around, you'll enjoy X Burlesque. In today's fast-paced, high energy, cut to the chase society, it just may be the perfect Vegas adult revue - and socially conscious, too, as they give out free condoms to the crowd!
So go get your free condom and see some beautiful naked women dancing, sliding and swinging around. X Burlesque performs nightly at the Flamingo in Bugsy’s Cabaret at 10 p.m. Tickets are $44.95 General Admission and $55.95 VIP and can be purchased at the Flamingo Box Office or by phone at 702-733-3333 or 800-221-7299, or visit http://www.xburlesque.com.
